Found exhaust leak at flex pipe on DP, questions.
Alright got the car torn down for upgrades. Today i pulled the DP off
to clean up the mounting flange in prep for a 3" o2 housing. I remember
i thought i had a small exhaust leak, so started looking over the DP.
First thing I checked was the flex pipe on it. Outside looked fine,
normal dirtiness. I did come across some cracks in the corrugated pipe
inside the flex pipe. One of the cracks is all the way through and I
can see light coming through the check valve crack. I assume this is giving me a
small leak and affecting my wideband, which has been reading lean before
i tore the car down?
The rest of the DP is fine, would it be worth it to just have a new flex
pipe welded in or go a new DP with a cutout? The flex pipes I have
seen dont have the corrugated pipe inside them, they are just the woven
stainless steel mesh, like the one modern performance sells. Will these
work just fine in the DP?
As long as the flex pipe you get to replace the broken one is the same
size, im sure you should be fine. If you get one that is too short the
pipe wont flex as much, if you get one that is too long your exhaust
might sag. Bring it to an exhaust shop have them cut the old flex pipe
off and weld in the new one. just make sure to remind them not to loose
the position of the flanges, otherwise your downpipe wont line up to ur
02 and exhaust.
