The Difference Between Silenced Check Valves and Silent Check Valves

2026-03-30

In water supply and drainage systems as well as HVAC systems, check valves serve as critical equipment for preventing medium backflow, and the issue of operational noise has received increasing attention. Both silenced check valves and silent check valves are designed with low noise as their objective, but there are significant differences between them in terms of structural principles, closing methods, and applicable scenarios. Correctly distinguishing and selecting the appropriate valve is essential for ensuring system operation performance. The main check valve product names of China Check Valve Network include:Wafer Vertical Lift Check Valve,Flange Straight-through High Pressure Check Valve,Wafer Vertical High Pressure Check Valve,Flange High Pressure Lift Check Valve,Welded Lift Angle-type Check Valve,Internal Thread,Socket Welded Vertical Check Valve,

I. Different Structural Principles Check Valve manufactor

Silenced check valves (common models: HC41X, HC42X) typically adopt a lift-type or swing-type structure. They are equipped with an internal spring-assisted closing device, and the flow path is optimized to allow the medium to flow smoothly, thereby reducing vibration and noise caused by vortices. These valves close through the combined action of medium pressure differential and spring force.

Silent check valves (common models: DRVZ, DRV, H42X) mostly adopt a flow-guided or axial-flow structure. Their disc moves linearly along the central axis, with an internal stainless steel spring and guiding device. The disc and seat feature precision fit. This structure allows the disc to reset smoothly along the flow direction during closing, with a short closing stroke and responsive action.

II. Different Closing Methods and Noise Reduction Mechanisms

The noise reduction of silenced check valves is primarily achieved through flow path optimization, and their closing speed is relatively fast. When the medium flow rate slows down or shows a tendency to reverse, the disc closes rapidly under the combined action of spring force and backflow force, effectively preventing water hammer and thereby eliminating the intense noise caused by water hammer impact.Check Valve Products

Silent check valves place greater emphasis on the smoothness of the closing process. Their disc moves linearly along the central guiding device, with a short closing stroke and responsive action. At the moment of medium reversal, the disc resets quickly under spring force, but due to its linear motion path and precise guiding, the closing process is smooth and orderly, keeping noise at an extremely low level.

III. Different Applicable Scenarios

Silenced check valves are widely used in high-rise building water supply systems, fire protection systems, and HVAC circulating water systems, particularly suitable for applications with high water hammer protection requirements and complex pipeline routing.

Silent check valves are more suitable for locations with extremely strict noise control requirements, such as hospitals, schools, residential communities, precision laboratories, as well as positions like pump outlets where water flow velocity varies significantly.

IV. Selection Recommendations

When selecting a valve, comprehensive consideration should be given to the actual system operating conditions. If the pipeline system is long, has numerous bends, and requires water hammer protection, a silenced check valve is an ideal choice. If noise control requirements are extremely strict and the system medium is relatively clean, a silent check valve is more appropriate.

Correctly distinguishing the characteristics of silenced check valves and silent check valves, and selecting rationally based on system operating conditions, effectively ensures the safe, stable, and quiet operation of the pipeline system.
