Check Valve Structural Types

1.  Swing Check Valve: The disc of a swing check valve is disc-shaped and rotates around a pivot pin within the valve seat passage. Due to the streamlined flow path inside the valve, its flow resistance is lower than that of a lift check valve. It is suitable for large-diameter applications with low flow velocity and infrequent flow changes, but it is not recommended for pulsating flow, and its sealing performance is inferior to that of the lift type. Swing check valves are classified into single-disc, double-disc, and multi-disc types. 2.  Lift Check Valve: A check valve where the disc slides along the vertical centerline of the body. Lift check valves can only be installed in horizontal pipelines. For high-pressure, small-diameter check valves, the disc can be a ball. The body shape of a lift check valve is similar to that of a globe valve (and can sometimes be interchangeable), resulting in a relatively high fluid resistance coefficient. Its structure resembles that of a globe valve, with similar body and disc. Guide bushings are machined on the upper part of the disc and the lower part of the bonnet, allowing the disc guide to move freely up and down within the bonnet guide. When the medium flows forward, the disc is opened by the medium's thrust. When the flow stops, the disc falls back onto the seat by its own weight, preventing reverse flow. For a straight-through lift check valve, the inlet and outlet flow directions are perpendicular to the seat passage direction. For a vertical lift check valve, the inlet and outlet flow directions are the same as the seat passage direction, offering lower flow resistance compared to the straight-through type.Check Valve News

 

3.  Disc Check Valve: A check valve where the disc rotates around a pivot pin inside the seat. The disc check valve has a simple structure, can only be installed in horizontal pipelines, and has relatively poor sealing performance. Check Valve Standard

 

4.  In-Line Check Valve (Nozzle Check Valve): A valve where the disc slides along the centerline of the body. The in-line check valve is a newer type of valve, characterized by its small size, light weight, and good manufacturability, representing a direction in check valve development. However, its fluid resistance coefficient is slightly higher than that of a swing check valve.

 

5.  Compression Check Valve: This type of valve is used as a shut-off valve for boiler feedwater and steam. It combines the functions of a lift check valve and a globe valve or angle valve.

 

Additionally, there are some check valves not suitable for pump outlet installation, such as foot valves, spring-loaded check valves, Y-type check valves, etc.
